How to Do Product Feasibility, Evaluation, Testing,
Prototyping
|
|

Did you know that
the majority of companies fail to transform an good idea into a working
prototype that the prospective customer would be willing to purchase?
Our
research indicates that even good ideas usually fail to reach the market as
attractive, sellable products due to multiple, preventable causes.
We will list here a few:
- The group that invented
and had ownership of the idea was not allowed to develop it into
working prototypes. The department that took over the responsibility
to design and build the prototypes either did not have the required
drive and motivation or was not permitted to gain partial ownership of
the idea.
- The customer was not
intimately involved in the product development process.
- Marketing kept on
modifying the product design so that either the product cost got too
high or engineering was unable to develop a functioning product with
so many "bells and whistles."
- Manufacturing either got
involved late in the project or was asked to participate when it was
already too late.
- The conceived product
idea either could be protected via a utility patent or was found to
infringe on a competitor's patent.
